Max Greenfield is writing a children’s book inspired by his friendship with the late actor Leslie Jordan.
Putnam Books for Young Readers will publish actor Greenfield’s Good Night Thoughts, illustrated by James Serafino, this summer, People magazine reports. The press describes the book as “a sweetly funny bedtime book about anxiety and being present.”
Greenfield is known for his roles on the television series New Girl and The Neighborhood and for his previous children’s books, which include I Don’t Want To Read This Book and This Book Is Not a Present, both illustrated by Mike Lowery.
He befriended Jordan in 2017 after making a guest appearance on the sitcom Will & Grace, on which Jordan played a supporting role. Jordan died in 2022 at 67 after a car crash in Hollywood.
In an Instagram post, Greenfield wrote, “I’m scared ALL the time. About anything and everything. And that’s on a good day. GOOD NIGHT THOUGHTS is a gentle reminder that fear is often a chosen path and that sometimes what frightens us most is our own imagination.”
“My dear friend Leslie Jordan and I would talk often about this very subject,” he continued. “What we were most afraid of and how to put those thoughts to bed. Our conversations with one another were the inspiration for this book. I think Leslie would have been very happy with how it turned out, although he probably would have wanted to be on the front cover.”
Good Night Thoughts is slated for publication on Sept. 3.
